High-Performance Humans in the AI Era

Steady yourself, connect with your people and achieve the best-possible outcome

You know you're not a robot, and neither are your people. You know you and your teams must use the fastest, newest tools in order to keep your company at the front of your market.

Technology tools have changed radically in just the last three months, and even more in the last fiscal year.

Have your human-management skills evolved to meet this moment?

The good news is - the laws of physics require balance, and so if the machines are speeding up, then the humans get to slow down. We get to do less.

In fact, we must. It's in the moments of slow-down that we foster high-performance, for ourselves and the people (and robots) we lead.

The pressure to succeed has never been greater. The risks have never been more complex. The data and information available to us have never been more abundant.

For leaders, coaches, and people managers, guiding your people and your team to the objective success has never felt more intense.

And the acceleration is just beginning. Like a super-sonic jet taking off, we are actually still on the runway of the next era. Pretty scary stuff, if we think too much about it.

So what does it mean to lead high-performing teams in the relentless, high-pressure environments we experience today? How do we create the space and time we need to make grounded, wise decisions?

What management strategies and skills are more likely to lead to success?

For starters, we have to learn how to work inside-out.

First, steady yourself. Then, connect with your people. And together you will achieve the best-possible outcome.

I know this works because I spent decades in the most-competitive, pressure-filled environments I could find. Paralympics, with medals in two sports. Professional bike racing. Leading change in Fortune 500 companies from the bottom of the org charts. Book publishing.

These experiences taught me the essential lesson that I want to share with you:

The most successful people know how to find calm, secure, wisdom inside themselves - NO MATTER WHAT is happening around them.

They have mastered the art of energy management.

They make smarter decisions because fear is no longer their closest advisor.

They make better choices because their subconscious can distinguish between signals and noise.

They are attuned to the smallest, quietest pieces of information - BECAUSE they are in wild, uncertain environments. They know that when everything is chaos, the path to safety appears as a whisper.

Knowing how to interpret the signals - coming from your environment or the humans on your team - is a skill. It's something you have to, get to, and still have the opportunity to learn.

Most of us were not taught skills that allow for high-performance in this era. The old toolbox leads us to anxiety, burnout, discouragement, and a persistent sense of inevitable failure.

Your new toolbox, however, fosters clarity, confidence, and calm. First for yourself, and then for your people.
